I went to a showing of the Blues and Gospel Train in Chorlton a couple of months ago. There was lots of talk about holding a 50 year commemorative event on the same spot in 2014. Although the station doesn’t exist now. It’s part of the Fallowfield Loop cycle track.

This is an interesting link about the true location of the event actually being in Whalley Range and how Granada TV basically invented ‘Chorltonville’.

Manchester Gospel

In the 1960s Sister Rosetta Tharpe and the “Blues and Gospel Train” show came to the disused station of Chorlton cum Hardy in Manchester and was filmed by Granada TV.

This BBC4 documentary about Sister Rosetta shows us how a young girl from Mississippi in Cotton Plant, Arkansas helped create rock and roll!
